1. There are 323 students who attend Mt. Hope Elementary
School. 4 buses come to pick up the students from the school at the end of the
day. Each bus has 24 seats, each seat holds 2 people. If all the buses are
full, how many students were picked up by their parents or stayed after school?
2. There is a full school bus with 48 students on it. There
are 7 kindergarteners, 8 1st graders, 8 2nd graders, 12 3rd
graders, and 4 4th graders. How many 5th graders are on
the bus and how many seats do they take up if there are 2 people per seat?
I really like the pictures that Michelle chose for this assignment. Initially when assigned this assignment, I thought numbers. I liked how she chose pictures that still had to do with math, but didn't explicitly involve numbers. I think that the first question was a higher-level task (procedures with connections). The students had to use procedures in order to develop an answer to the problem and math concept. This problem can be presented in multiple ways as well. I think the second question asked was a little more straight forward and could have been procedures without connections. The students would plug in the numbers to find an answer. Overall, I enjoyed looking at these pictures and relating them to math.
ReplyDeleteI think that the pictures Michelle choose for this assignment are very suiting. I think that her problems were very well thought out and state what the students were to look for. I agree with Colleen in the sense that the first task would be considered a Procedures with connections problem because the students were to use many numbers to solve the problem. I think that the second problem could go either way, it could be procedures without connections or procedures with connections depending on how you approach it. All the information is given but some students may become slightly confused with the numbers that are there. Overall, I think that you did a very good job on it!
